weekly, after being called out many times lately to get what many perceived as a racially discriminatory policy, Walmart declared it would not lock up “multicultural” hair solutions. And while it is way drunk, it did not take long for several other big retailers which have been doing so at a few of their places to follow suit. Two of the country’s largest pharmacy chains, Walgreens and CVS, have declared that, in shops in which they’ve been locked in cases and inaccessible without a worker’s aid, they will place products traditionally advertised to individuals of colour on open shelves such as the remaining merchandise in their attractiveness aisles.

Soon after news broke of Walmart’s statement Walgreens told the Associated Press in a statement Thursday, “We’re ensuring multicultural hair care and beauty products aren’t kept behind locked instances at some of our shops.” Allure achieved to Walgreens and obtained exactly the exact same statement.

The next day, Company Insider reported that CVS shared a statement together with them studying, “We’ve got a company nondiscrimination policy that is relevant to all elements of our organization and our product security measures haven’t been based on the race or ethnicity of our clients. After reviewing the safety steps we have set for many distinct products and classes, we’re taking steps in our shops to make certain that no hair, attractiveness, or personal-care goods such as communities of color are all stored in locked screens or shelving components.”

A movie shared by Walmart shopper Lauren Epps only before Walmart’s policy shift outlines this change is indeed needed at all shops that lock products intended for specific shoppers. “White privilege also extends into hair-care goods,” Epps says, revealing the design of this hair-care aisle. “Over here, should I need Suave or even Tresemmé or Pantene, it is out. But the multicultural hair maintenance is locked behind the glass ’cause I bet you believe we’re simply gonna rush up in here and steal it. That is so absurd.”

It’s unclear just how many Walgreens and CVS places had locked instances and if they may be anticipated to be completely removed. Allure has asked about these particulars, and this post will probably likely be updated as more info becomes available.
