To celebrate the launching of Morphe two, Allure talked against the sisters about attractiveness, entrepreneurship, and the way their connection with cosmetics has shifted throughout the pandemic.

ALLURE: Just how remaining at home affected your beauty regimen?

CHARLI D’AMELIO: I have had time to understand. I’ve been asking [other TikTok creators] about beauty and I’ve enjoyed having more time to experiment with new types of makeup. I have also been working on doing eyeliner.

DIXIE D’AMELIO: I’ve been working on eyeliner too, and I’ve been taking really good care of my skin.

When did your relationship with attractiveness begin?

DD: Through my mom, actually.

CD: I’d say my mom too. She’s always been really helpful in teaching us everything we need to know about how to take care of ourselves. Growing up as a competitive dancer, I always had to compete with a full face of makeup. Competitive dance taught me at any early age how creativity and makeup inform each other.

Is there any part of your beauty routine that you don’t post about on TikTok?

CD: I post pretty much everything on my TikTok. Sometimes I hold back from posting something because I know James [Charles] is going to say, “Why did you do that?” Joking, of course. I know that there’s not one way to do makeup, but I still have a lot to learn. And I love that TikTok is filled with so many amazing, inspiring creators.

DD: I definitely do [my makeup] “wrong” all the time, but there’s no one way to do makeup.

How do you think makeup has influenced your relationship with yourself?

CD: I wear makeup for myself. I noticed during quarantine that I was doing my makeup even when I wasn’t going out. I love that makeup is so complete of creativity.

DD: When I wear makeup, I feel like I’m actually getting ready for the day. It’s a form of self-care and makes me feel like I’m doing something positive for myself.

Why is it important for you both to launch this sub-brand with Morphe?

DD: We don’t hide anything on TikTok and this line feels very aligned with what we stand for. We want to show blemishes and acne are okay. I really like how natural, enjoyable, glowy, and refreshing Morphe 2 is.
