Editor’s Letter: The Story Behind Our Mid-Pandemic World Magnificence Problem, Montreal Manicure

Three years in the past, we had the grand concept to create what we referred to as our Out of Workplace problem. The complete workers would — await it — work remotely for the month-plus that it took to provide the difficulty. The idea was that the workforce could be dispatched to far-flung corners of the world to report on magnificence in different nations. We would uncover sunscreen from Bondi Seashore, discover dry-skin secrets and techniques close to the South Pole, and maybe forge an editor-exchange program of types with our sibling model, Attract Korea. Nobody would set foot in our Manhattan places of work for a number of weeks.

I discussed the outlandish mission to our then CEO and braced myself for future HR interference. He paused and stated, “That is an incredible concept. Possibly that’s how we’ll all be working quickly.”

Just a few years and one pandemic later, right here we’re.

Alas, the unique idea didn’t materialize precisely as deliberate again then (it seems that abandoning properties and households en masse for prolonged intervals of time is more durable, and dearer, than it seems to be in memos). Ultimately, Out of Workplace morphed into what we now know as our Better of World Magnificence problem. And that notion of distant work (minus the globe-trotting) has turn into not so outlandish in any case.

For this problem, we journey — just about — all over the world, from Nigeria to Brazil to South Korea, for our cowl tales starring three international music superstars: Tiwa Savage, Anitta, and CL. We delve into colorism in Thailand with make-up artist Nick Barose, wander far off the overwhelmed path to the lone hair salon at McMurdo Station in Antarctica, get a peek into Danish skin-care phenom Ole Henrikse’s dream equipment, and even go extraterrestrial for a lesson in microgravity magnificence and wellness from some skilled house vacationers (possibly this is how we’ll all be working quickly).

Exploring new locations and meals and merchandise and cultures is without doubt one of the joys of my life. And I miss it. However I can lastly see these freer, post-pandemic days on the horizon. My OOO message is standing by.
