How COVID-19 Affected the Makeup in Dior Cruise 2021

How COVID-19 Affected the Makeup in Dior Cruise 2021, Montreal Manicure

Before going back for Fashion Week shows, I have to have a deep breath and mentally, mentally, and emotionally prepare myself for being a sardine. Normally, the models are put up at makeup and hair channels essentially shoulder to shoulder at a tiny, narrow area. I need to squeeze through tight pops to have a glimpse at them. Everyone gets in the way of one another. Ahead of the pandemic, the bloated madness thrilled me. Now, just thinking about it makes me cringe.

Gradually but certainly, trend shows are occurring . The Dior Cruise 2021 series, for example, happened today, July 22. An audience was not physically in attendance, but folks watched through their displays since 47 versions walked a runway setup from the Piazza del Duomo at Lecce, Italy.

And since the direct makeup artist to the series (as well as the creative and picture director for Dior Makeup), Peter Philips, informs a bunch of beauty editors, such as myselfover Zoom, “Where there is a version, there’ll be a backstage.”

The Installation

Though I could not see how COVID-19 has changed the backstage experience firsthand, Philips clarified it with just as much detail as he can out of a silent white-walled area within the Bishop’s Palace. Prior to doing this, he notes hygiene has ever been critical to his occupation. “We touch people’s faces all of the time,” he adds. “It is essential to become ultra-careful. In this circumstance , we push it to the extreme.”

Makeup artists were outfitted in masks and face shields to work with models set up at social-distanced stations. “I can tell youit’s not easy,” Philips said. “When you wear glasses and the shield, everything fogs up. In the shield, you see all the reflections.”

Each of the models had their own set of products, including brushes, pre-labeled with their names. Hand sanitizer was set up everywhere. Temperatures have been taken every time anyone entered and exited the building.

The Look

Philips created a simple-yet-stunning look for the versions that was so quick and simple to complete that even you could ace it. “It’s not intimidating. There are no special tricks. The scariest part of those whole thing is curling the lashes,” he says. “It’s a style that matches [everyone].”
