On Drag Race, you will often hear Rupaul challenge his contestants to provide “the potential for haul.” Naomi Smalls, the treasured runner-up from year eight and All Stars season , is going to do precisely that. On September 1, she will introduction her first-ever solo haul display, The Smalls World Show. The notion of a solo haul show is not by any means new — but rather than taking her show on a live, on site excursion, Smalls has produced a digital creation that anybody in almost any town, country, or nation can observe in their home.

The series itself is a mixture of pre-recorded lipsync performances, discussions with a few of Smalls’s relatives, a few storytelling minutes, and much more. Since Smalls informs Allure, it is the most vulnerable she has ever let herself be on the general public. “Everything from The Smalls World Show is unquestionably more private, and that is something I never actually got to research because I did not feel super comfortable giving my psychological side to someone else,” she states.

And, naturally, The Smalls World Show is packaged with its fair share of epic makeup and hair minutes. Smalls is famous for her high-fashion design and fitting beauty sensibilities, after all. “Hair and cosmetics are likely my favourite accessories since you may transport somebody instantly,” she states. “And that is exactly what I really like to perform together with my haul… it takes one to a very different world.”

Smalls started working on this series over a year ago — and she initially intended for this to be a point production such as the Sasha Velour tour which prompted it. Input the sudden COVID-19 pandemic, which gave Smalls two choices: put off making the series until a tour may happen or state “screw it” and do anything fresh. She chose option two. “I really don’t see us on point for the near future, so rather than being like, ‘I am simply not going to perform drag, fuck that,’ I chose to take things into my own hands and also create it,” Smalls clarifies.

Weirdly enough, everything worked out for the better for a few reasons — the first being that it is way simpler to keep creative control of a drag functionality when all is pre-recorded and you are the only person accountable.
